Cartoons for Grown-ups

For as long as I can remember I have drawn cartoons. Even when my art teacher told me it wasn't proper art and I should draw something else. Even when my dad said I should get a bread and butter job and not worry about art college. Even when my school careers advisor told me it wasn't the sort of career worth considering. Well I showed them! And it only took me another 34 years to get published!

I am now a freelance cartoonist and have been living off what are generally considered to be ‘my wits’ since the 1990s. During this time I have drawn for everyone from Private Eye to Playboy, the Metropolitan Police and the BBC.

This has involved the production of thousands of small drawings, some of which are topical, some of which are funny and some of which have resulted in the police coming round with a restraining order.

The moral of this story is don't give up. Do what you want to do and don't be surprised if it take 34 years to do it.
